Establishing the Automotive Resource Center in Anting Town

Year

2022.10.28

Location

Shanghai

Overview

Situated in the heart of Shanghai Auto City: Anting, this project addresses the lack of a cohesive public interface among the region's dense but scattered automotive enterprises. Despite having a concentration of 7 car factories, 24 R&D centers, and 15 4S shops, the area lacks a centralized platform for resource integration. My design aims to build a 'bridge' between the public and the local industry, integrating diverse industrial functions into a singular cultural landmark.

Design Concept: An Integrative Platform

Situated in the heart of Shanghai Auto City: Anting, this project addresses the lack of a cohesive public interface among the region's dense but scattered automotive enterprises. Despite having a concentration of 7 car factories, 24 R&D centers, and 15 4S shops, the area lacks a centralized platform for resource integration.

My design aims to build a 'bridge' between the public and the local industry. By lowering the terrain to create an open field for entertainment and utilizing a dynamic, tapering form, the building integrates diverse industrial functions into a singular cultural landmark. It is not just a showcase for future mobility, but a system that defines the future development direction of the entire automotive town.

Technical & Spatial Logic: The Vertical Narrative

The architectural logic is defined by a sophisticated Truss Structure and a Vertical Functional Gradient. As the building rises, floor heights gradually decrease to match its aerodynamic, shrinking form. This verticality creates a narrative journey:

- Ground Levels (-7m to 0m): Focus on public accessibility, featuring a Concourse, Auto Exchange Center, and interactive spaces embedded within the lowered terrain to optimize the micro-climate.

- Mid-Levels (0m to 11m): House the History Museum and the 'Model World,' where the structural truss allows for large-span galleries that accommodate both human flow and actual vehicles via specialized car elevators.

- Upper Levels (11m to 18m): Dedicated to cutting-edge technology, including the GPS Hall, 5G Driving Cabs, and Research Laboratories, culminating in a vision of the 'Science Future.'

The façade, composed of aluminum mounting plates and ultra-clear glass, emphasizes the precision of automotive engineering. Through the integration of core barrels and multi-dimensional circulation, the museum facilitates a seamless experience where technology, history, and industry converge into a participatory urban paradigm.
